googleef47b90ff30116ef.htmlWelcome to of Heart and Mind, a collaboration between Julia and Elizabeth!
Julia and Elizabeth met in the summer of 2009 while working as Politics & Education Fellows at the Women’s Campaign Forum in Washington, DC. We quickly discovered our mutual affinity for a freakish number of topics, including: feminism, politics, cheese, reproductive rights, dresses, J.Crew, music (especially the feminist kind), literature, Google Reader, history, law, anti-libertarianism, gin & tonics, and sunshine. As such, it was inconceivable to begin our foray into the blogosphere solo. Begun in December 2009, this blog exists to share our perspectives on the topics of the day with a decidedly feminist twist. The title comes from this Joni Mitchell song. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing it!
Elizabeth is a New Jersey native and recent transplant to Washington, DC, where she works at a nonprofit that empowers women to act politically on issues of peace and security. She has quickly become an expert at navigating around tourists and tea partiers on the National Mall and has an extensive knowledge of DC’s free happy hour scene. Elizabeth graduated from Connecticut College in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies, concentration in Politics, Society, and Policy, and a Gender & Women’s Studies minor.
Elizabeth likes: choice, Judith Butler, bread, narrative nonfiction, puppy dogs, feminist blogs, MTV’s Jersey Shore, political arguments, dancing in the moonlight, Joan Didion, red wine, street festivals, London, farmers markets, the Oxford comma, and paying with exact change.

Julia was active in the College Park Students for a democratic Society (SdS) and has continued her activism in DC, where she is a recent member of the National Lawyers Guild and the Law Students for Reproductive Justice.
